Dear Friends,

Having completed nine positively eventful months serving as your President, my "mantra' all along, has been to ensure CREATIVE LEADERSHIP and ACCOUNTABLE GOVERNANCE

This has been a year, like no other…To me personally, recognising the 'new normal', quickly adapting to the change and strategically implementing VISION 2020 during the unprecedented COVID 19 pandemic, have been Life's powerful learning lessons…

I am writing to share the news relating to ASI Lifetime Achievement awards for the year 2020, the highest recognition that is conferred annually upon three members of our Association.

For the First time in ASI's history, as President, moved away from the convention and declined to be conferred the Lifetime Achievement award.

For the first time in ASI's history, introduced a structure and transparency to the selection process to these most coveted awards bestowed by ASI.

Self nominations were not entertained. There were eleven nominations proposed and seconded by ASI Members with a Citation in under 800 words.

The Lifetime contribution of the Nominees to the art & science of surgery, teaching/training, ASI activities & public service were taken into consideration whilst selecting the awardees.

Prof. CR Ballal (Mangalore), Prof. Devendra Patel (Ahmedabad) & Prof. Tehemton Udwadia (Mumbai) have been unanimously selected.
(The names have been listed in alphabetical order)

ASI LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARDEES (2020)

The awards would be presented during the inaugural ceremony at the virtual annual Conference of ASI in Dec 2020 – ASICON 2020 (www.asicon2020.com). A brief message from the Awardees would be played out to the delegates during the Congress.

I take this opportunity to salute all the three DOYENS in the surgical profession for their yeomen contribution…

The life transforming major philanthropic initiatives championed by the Association over the past several months coupled with the intense & vibrant online academic activity have been the highlights of the year thus far. I have no doubt whatsoever that our flagship virtual annual Congress later this year, would be a fitting grand finale to "THE YEAR"!

Best regards.

Yours, in service of ASI,

Dr. P. Raghu Ram
