Significance of Penile Anthropometry and Urethral Mobilization in Distal Hypospadias repair : single blind randomized study.
Abstract
Purpose: To assess the postoperative complications of patients that underwent urethral mobilization for distal hypospadias and compare with anthropometric measurements in case of different values of the same age group. To correlate age with different anthropometric measurements.
Materials and Methods: Single blind prospective randomized single centre study from August 2016 to Jan 2018. 52 patients out of 70 were included in the study population after excluding genital, genetic, cardiac and endocrine anomalies unfit for anesthesia, outside the age limit (1 to12 yrs). Penile anthropometry was measured using Vernier skin calliper preoperatively and assessment of postoperative complications of urethral mobilization procedure in the same age group with the same type of hypospadias. Pearson’s Correlation was used to assess age and Different anthropometric variables.
Results: Group A, 2yrs, distal penile type (urethrocutaneous fistula with wound dehiscence), Group B, 11yrs, coronal type (meatal retraction with wound dehiscence) revealed (P= 0, 0307, <0.05) significant. Positive correlation was seen between age and the anthropometric variables. Coefficient Correlation was between r= 0.30 to 0.40 for SPL, VL, Gdcl, MPW. Coefficient Correlation was r= 0.20 and 0.24 for Gdmgl and FPL respectively. Very weak correlation was noted with UPL and UPW (r= 0.021 and r=0.069) respectively.
Conclusion: From our experience in distal hypospadias we recommend Urethral mobilization as the procedure of choice for distal hypospadias because of its low complication rate and shorter hospital stay, a simple straightforward technique. Penile anthropometry is an important documentation for future assessment of similar procedure on similar penile nomograms.
